On This Day

On this day in 1667, Samuel Pepys didn’t know how to open his front door because his servant had overslept.  Wow. What a moron. Eventually, he and his wife took a coach to Cambridge, stopping off at a friend’s where they admired the garden.  Eventually, they reached Audley-End where the staircase and ceilings were not as good as his friend’s the Lord Chancellors.  The paintings were poor (and get this) including one of ‘Harry the Eighth done by Holben’ sic.  They then raided the wine cellar and drank much good liquor and his wife and he sang.  Sounds like the life of the Eton Boys to me.
